Description: Allows more then one board on a server to share the same login.

Instructions / Other Info: 1. Share a common Memember file, you can do this by manually setting the Memeber location to a commmon drive or using symbolic links to the direct location.

2. Change the cookie_name in vars_config.cgi of one of the boards to match the cookie_name of the other. This allows the boards to read eachother's login cookies.

3. Clear the cache on both boards as the cookie_name needs to be reset on many pages.

Problems

This works pretty well, you can login one board and not be required to login to the rest, it does however break the last read light bulbs, the bulbs will only be accurate for the board you logged off on.

Boards must reside on the same server, the nature of cookies requires that only the server that planted the cookie can read it.

WARNING: Sharing a member database in this way can and will cause inconsistancies in private forum permissions and the user post history indexes.

doesn't UBBDEV do that here though? I can use the same account on both the test site and this main site, and if I post in one place, it adds to my post count here afaik

Yes, and it can cause problems...

it can We can't do complete updates on the test site and the "db" forum because updating member post histories would point to one forum or the other

Other than that, as long as both versions are the same and you don't have private forums on both forums, you 'll be ok
